Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and the marriage was consummated when I was nine. She said: I came to Madinah and had a fever for a month, and my hair, which had fallen out, grew back to my shoulders. Then Umm Ruman (may Allah be pleased with her) came to me while I was on a swing with my friends. She called me and I went to her, not knowing why she had called me. She took me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house, and I was panting until my breath settled. Then she took me into the house, where there were women of the Ansar. They said: 'Ala al-khayri wa al-barakati wa 'ala khayri ta'ir (Upon goodness and blessing, and upon the best of fortune). My mother handed me over to them, and they washed my head and made me ready. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in the forenoon, and they handed me over to him (peace and blessings be upon him).

Ja'far bin Sa'id narrated from his father, Sa'id bin Ubaydullah al-Kahili, that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have a dowry?" I said: I have my mount and my coat of mail. He said: I sold them both for four hundred. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get plenty of perfume for Fatimah, for she too is a woman among women."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition. When we were returning, I hurried along on a slow camel of mine. A rider from behind prodded my camel with a short spear he had, and my camel set off at a pace such as I had never seen even the finest camel go. I turned round, and it was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Jabir, why are you in a hurry?" I said: O Messenger of Allah, I am newly married. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you marry a virgin or a previously married woman?" He said: I said: A previously married woman. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not marry a young girl, so that you could play with her and she with you?" When we reached Madinah, we set out to enter our homes, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wait, and enter at night (at the time of Isha), so that the woman with dishevelled hair may comb it and the woman whose husband was away (on a journey) may remove her pubic hair." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you arrive, show good sense."
