It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dies, I will marry Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) or Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And it is not for you to harm the Messenger of Allah, nor ever to marry his wives after him. Indeed, that would be an enormity in the sight of Allah." [Surah al-Ahzab: 53].
Sulayman (bin Ahmad) said: No one narrated it from Sufyan except Mihran.

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by a boy who was reading: "The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers" [Surah al-Ahzab: 6] "and he is a father to them." He said: "O boy! Erase it." He said: "This is the mushaf of Ubayy (Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him)." So he went to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him, and he said: "That is because the Qur'an kept me occupied (I was reciting the Qur'an), while the clamour of the markets kept you busy (that is, buying and selling)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to his wife: If you would like to be my wife in Paradise as well, then do not marry anyone else after me, for in Paradise a woman will belong to the last of her husbands in this world. That is why marrying the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was made unlawful, because they will be his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives in Paradise as well.
