Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: On the day of the Conquest, that is, the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted safety to the people except for four men and two women, among them Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh. He narrated the hadith until he said: As for Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, he hid with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people to give the pledge of allegiance, he brought him and made him stand before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and said: O Messenger of Allah! Accept the pledge of Abdullah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and looked at him three times, refusing each time; then after the third time he accepted his pledge. Then he turned to his Companions and said: "Was there not among you a man of sense who would get up to this man, when he saw that I had withheld my hand from accepting his pledge, and kill him?" They said: O Messenger of Allah! How could we know what was in your heart? Why did you not signal to us with your eye? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not befitting for a prophet to have a treacherous eye."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will kill Ka'b bin al-Ashraf? He has harmed Allah and His Messenger." Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Would you like me to kill him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Then the Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Grant me (peace and blessings be upon him) permission. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have given you permission." Then he narrated the story of the killing of Ka'b bin al-Ashraf: when I had killed him, they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "War is deception."
