When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen, he said: "You are going to a people who are People of the Book. When you come to them, invite them to (testify) that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. If they accept this, then tell them: Five prayers have been made obligatory on you in every day and night. If they accept this too, then tell them: Allah has also made sadaqah obligatory on you, which will be taken from the rich and distributed among the poor. If they accept this too, then avoid (taking) their most precious wealth, and beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah."
