Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking when suddenly a man came to him with a donkey. He said: O Messenger of Allah, ride, and I will sit behind. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, you have more right than I to ride at the front of your own animal, unless you give it to me" (that is, grant permission willingly). He said: I have given it to you (that is, you ride at the front).
Others narrated it from Abdullah as mursal.

Abdullah bin Buraydah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) brought an animal to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he (peace and blessings be upon him) might ride it. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The owner of the animal has more right to ride at its front." Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is yours." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rode and seated Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him.
