Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), describing the Hajj of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), says that on the day of sacrifice the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered 63 camels himself, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) slaughtered the rest. He had a hundred sacrificial camels. Then a piece of meat was taken from each sacrificial camel, and all of them were cooked together. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) ate of the meat and drank of the broth.

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla narrates from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered his camels, he (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered two-thirds of them with his own hand; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me, and I slaughtered all the rest.
Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar narrated it thus, and the narration of Ja'far is more authentic. And Allah knows best.

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Fatimah, get up and be present at your sacrifice, for with the very first drop of its blood every sin you have committed will be forgiven for you. And say: 'Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partner; with this I have been commanded, and I am the first of those who submit.' [Surah al-An'am: 163]" It was said: O Messenger of Allah, is this specifically for you and your household, for you are worthy of it, or is it for the Muslims in general? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, for the Muslims in general."
We have recorded it from the hadith of Imran only through this route, and it is not strong. It has also been narrated from Amr bin Khalid with his chain from Ali, and Amr bin Khalid is matruk (abandoned).
(b) Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Jew or a Christian should not slaughter the sacrifice of a Muslim.
(c) Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) disliked that a Jew or a Christian should slaughter the sacrifice of a Muslim. We too dislike in this what they both disliked, but if someone does so, the owner of the sacrifice does not have to repeat it, because of the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them." [Surah al-Ma'idah: 5] meaning, and Allah knows best, their slaughtered animals.
