Jubayr bin Nufayr al-Hadrami (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was sitting with Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) in Bayt al-Maqdis, or in the mosque, when suddenly a man came wearing yellow garments. Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I entered ihram in garments like these, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them on me and forbade me from wearing them. Then I returned to my house and did such a thing to those garments that I wish I had not done it. I said: What did you do? He said: I lit an oven and threw them into it.

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: We descended with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hill of Idhakhir. He narrated the entire hadith concerning the prayer. He said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards me, and I was wearing a sheet dyed with yellow dye. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this sheet on you?" I understood that he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked it. So I went to my household while they were lighting their oven, and I threw it into it. Then the next day I went to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abdullah! What became of the sheet?" I told him (peace and blessings be upon him) the whole matter. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not give it to one of your household? For there is no harm in it for women."

Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for Hajj, and Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) consummated his marriage with his wife. Then he set out towards Makkah and reached the people while they had not yet moved on. Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, and there were traces of perfume on him and a yellow-dyed sheet. So he rebuked him and expressed his displeasure, and said: You wear yellow-dyed clothing when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden it? Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not forbid him or you; he only forbade me. So Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) fell silent.
