It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man saying: "Labbayk 'an Shubrumah" (Here I am, on behalf of Shubrumah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who is this Shubrumah?" He said: a relative of mine, or he said: my brother. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you ever performed Hajj yourself?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then make this Hajj for yourself, then perform Hajj on behalf of Shubrumah."
This chain is sahih (authentic); there is nothing in this chapter more authentic than it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man saying the talbiyah on behalf of Shubrumah, so he asked: "Who is Shubrumah?" He said: My brother, or a relative of mine. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you ever performed Hajj?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then make this Hajj for yourself, then perform it on his behalf afterwards."
Ghundar narrated it from Sa'id bin Abi Arubah as mawquf (stopping at Ibn Abbas), but the one who narrated it marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) is a reliable hafiz, so the disagreement of whoever contradicted him does not harm it.

Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man saying "Labbayk" on behalf of someone, so he said: "If you have performed Hajj yourself, then say the talbiyah on his behalf; otherwise perform Hajj for yourself, then perform it on his behalf."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man saying the talbiyah on behalf of someone else, so he asked: "Have you said the talbiyah on your own behalf?" He said: No. So he said: "First say the talbiyah on your own behalf, then say it on behalf of someone else."
It has also been narrated from Ata from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and from Ata from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as mursal; the first narration is the more correct, and Allah knows best.

Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard a man saying "Labbayk 'an Shubrumah" (Here I am, on behalf of Shubrumah), so he (Ibn Abbas) said: "Woe to you! What is Shubrumah?" He said: My brother, or a relative. So he asked: "Have you performed Hajj for yourself?" He said: No. He said: "Then make this Hajj for yourself, then perform it on behalf of Shubrumah."
This is how it has been narrated, as mawquf (stopping at Ibn Abbas).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that a man vowed to perform Hajj while he had not performed the obligatory Hajj, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "First perform the obligatory Hajj of Islam, then perform Hajj for your vow."

Ali (al-Daraqutni) said: This is the correct version from Ibn Abbas, and the one before it is a mistake. It is said that al-Hasan bin Umarah used to narrate it (that way), then retracted it and narrated it correctly, in agreement with the narration of others from Ibn Abbas; and he is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith) in any case.
