Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is not prevented by illness, an evident need or a tyrannical ruler, and yet does not perform Hajj, then let him die, if he wishes, as a Jew or as a Christian."
Although its chain is not strong, it has a supporting witness (shahid) in the saying of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) repeated this sentence three times: "Let him die a Jew or a Christian," meaning the man who died without performing Hajj (without an excuse) while he had the means and the way was open to him. He said: "A Hajj that I perform while I have not yet performed Hajj is dearer to me than six or seven military expeditions." In this narration the narrator Ibn Nu'aym is in doubt; and: "Fighting in jihad after I have performed Hajj is dearer to me than six or seven Hajj pilgrimages." The narrator of this narration, Ibn Nu'aym, is in doubt (that is, whether he said six Hajj pilgrimages or seven).
