Someone asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): I take wages from these people and perform Hajj with them; is there a reward for me too? He said: Yes, "Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in taking account." [Surah al-Baqarah: 202]

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Taymi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I used to serve people for hire, and people would say: You have no Hajj. I met Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: I do this work for people for hire, and people say that I have no Hajj. He said: Do you not enter ihram, say the talbiyah, perform tawaf, depart from Arafat and stone the Jamarat? I said: Of course. He said: Then you have a Hajj. A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked the same question you have asked me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and did not answer him until this verse was revealed: "There is no sin upon you in seeking the bounty of your Lord" [Surah al-Baqarah: 198]. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for him, recited this verse to him and said: "You have a Hajj."
