Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: Fasting is for Me and I Myself will give its reward, for he gives up his desire and leaves his eating and drinking for My sake. Fasting is a shield, and the fasting person has two joys: one joy at the time of breaking the fast and the other at the time of meeting his Lord. And the smell of his mouth is more pleasant to Allah than the fragrance of musk."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied, a good deed from ten times up to seven hundred times. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: Except fasting, for it is for Me and I Myself will give its reward; he leaves his desire and his food and drink for My sake. The fasting person has two joys: one joy at the time of breaking the fast and the other at the time of meeting his Lord. And the smell of the fasting person's mouth is more pleasant and fragrant to Allah than the fragrance of musk. Fasting is a shield, fasting is a shield."

Ayyub bin Hibban al-Wasiti narrates: I heard a man ask Sufyan bin Uyaynah (may Allah have mercy on him): "O Abu Muhammad, (what about) the report which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrates from his Lord: 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting, for it is for Me and I will give its reward'?" Ibn Uyaynah said: "This is among the finest and wisest of hadiths. When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will take account of His servant and settle the wrongs he owes from all his other deeds, until nothing remains but fasting. Then Allah will bear whatever wrongs remain against him and admit him to Paradise because of fasting."
