Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When (the throes of death) came upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept putting his garment over his face, and when he became short of breath he (peace and blessings be upon him) removed it from his face. Then, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in that state, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The curse of Allah be upon the Jews and the Christians, who took the graves of their prophets as places of prostration." He (peace and blessings be upon him) was warning against what they had done.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, some of his wives were talking about a church in the land of Abyssinia called Mariyah. Umm Salamah and Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with them both) had come from Abyssinia, and they mentioned its beauty and its images (decorations). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, when a righteous man among them died, they would make his grave a place of prostration, then they made these images in it. These are the worst of creation in the sight of Allah."
