Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the graveyard and said: "'As-salamu alaykum dara qawmin mu'minin, wa inna in sha' Allahu bikum lahiqun, wadidtu anna qad ra'ayna ikhwanana' (Peace be upon you, O dwellers of the abode of the believers! If Allah wills, we shall surely join you. I wish that we could see our brothers.)" The people said: Are we not your brothers? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, you are my Companions; my brothers are those who will come later." They said: O Messenger of Allah, how will you recognise those of your Ummah who will come later? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think: if a man had horses with white foreheads and white legs among horses that are pitch black, would he not recognise his horses?" They said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of my Ummah too will come with radiant faces and limbs from ablution, and I will be their forerunner at the Pool. Beware! People will be driven away from my Pool just as a stray camel is driven away. I will call out to them: 'Come here!' Then it will be said: 'They changed the religion after you.' Then I will say: 'Suhqan suhqan' (Away with them, away with them!)."

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that whenever it was her turn with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would go out to al-Baqi' in the last part of the night and say: "'As-salamu alaykum dara qawmin mu'minin, wa atakum ma tu'aduna ghadan mu'ajjalun, wa inna in sha' Allahu bikum lahiqun. Allahumma-ghfir li-ahli Baqi' al-Gharqad' (Peace be upon you, O dwellers of the abode of the believers! There has come to you what you were promised; you have been given respite until tomorrow; and we, if Allah wills, shall join you. O Allah, forgive the people of Baqi' al-Gharqad.)"

Muhammad bin Qays bin Makhramah bin al-Muttalib said one day: Shall I not narrate to you about myself and my mother? We thought he meant the mother who gave birth to him. He said: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Shall I not narrate to you about myself and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Certainly. Then he mentioned the hadith about his going out to al-Baqi' and his return. She said: I said: What then should I say, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'As-salamu ala ahli al-diyari min al-mu'minina wa al-muslimin, wa yarhamu Allahu al-mustaqdimina minna wa al-musta'khirin, wa inna in sha' Allahu bikum la-lahiqun' (Peace be upon the dwellers of these abodes among the believers and the Muslims; may Allah Almighty have mercy on those of us who have gone ahead and those who remain behind; and we too, if Allah wills, shall join you.)"
