It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that an unsaddled horse was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was returning from the funeral (of Ibn al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him)), and we were walking around him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the funeral prayer for Ibn al-Dahdah (may Allah be pleased with him), and an unsaddled horse was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: A man held it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted it; it began to move briskly, and we were running along behind it. A man from among the people said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How many hanging clusters of dates there are for Ibn al-Dahdah in Paradise!"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) attended a funeral. A mount was brought for him (peace and blessings be upon him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) declined to ride it. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished with the funeral and was leaving, a mount was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) rode it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about this, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels were walking on foot, and I did not think it fitting to ride while they were walking. When they left, or he said: when they ascended, I rode."

Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said that he went out with a funeral and saw people going out riding on their mounts. Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: "Are you not ashamed? The angels of Allah are on their feet while you are riding!"
This, with this chain, is what is preserved (mahfuz): mawquf (stopping at the Companion).

Isa bin Yunus narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Abi Maryam, from Rashid bin Sa'd, from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out with a funeral and saw people riding, so he said: "Are you not ashamed? The angels of Allah are on their feet while you are on the backs of mounts!"
A group likewise narrated it from Isa. Thawr bin Yazid narrated it from Rashid bin Sa'd from Thawban as mawquf (stopping at the Companion), and this indicates that the mawquf version is more correct; al-Bukhari also said so.
