Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Dinar narrates from his father that he heard Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) cite this verse of Abu Talib as an illustration:
'Wa abyada yustasqal-ghamamu bi-wajhihi, thimalul-yatama 'ismatun lil-aramil'
Translation: "The fair-faced one through whom even the clouds receive bounty, the helper of orphans and the feeder of widows."

Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Often I would recall the poet's verse while looking at the face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who would be standing on the pulpit asking for rain, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not come down from the pulpit before every gutter was gushing, and the poet's words would come to my mind:
'Wa abyada yustasqal-ghamamu bi-wajhihi, thimalul-yatama 'ismatun lil-aramil'
"The fair-complexioned one through whose blessed face rain is sought from the clouds; he is the refuge of orphans and the support of widows." And he said that these are the words of Abu Talib.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever they were struck by drought, Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) would supplicate with Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) and say: 'Allahumma inna kunna natawassalu ilayka bi-nabiyyina fa-tasqina, wa inna natawassalu ilayka bi-'ammi nabiyyina fasqina' (O Allah, we used to come to You through our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a means, and You would give us rain; today we come to You through the uncle of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a means, so give us rain). And they would be given rain. Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in his Sahih from al-Hasan bin Muhammad al-Za'farani, and he said: This report is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) without any doubt. He says that his name dropped out of the book of our (Shaykh) Abu Muhammad.
