Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me "to wear a ring on these." Asim said: I do not know which two fingers they were. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) "also forbade wearing qassi garments and also forbade sitting on silk saddle-cloths (mayathir)." Qassi was a ribbed cloth which used to come from Egypt and Syria, and by mayathir is meant the cloth which women used to make for their husbands to use as saddle-covers, like red-coloured wraps.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from qassi garments and the mithara. Abu Burdah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We asked Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "What is qassi cloth?" He said: It is a cloth which used to come to us from Syria and Egypt; it had silk in it, with patterns like citrons. And by mithara is meant a cloth which women make for their husbands, like wraps, which are used as saddle-covers.

Ayyash bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard Abu al-Husayn al-Haytham bin Shufayy (may Allah have mercy on him) say: Abu Amir al-Ma'afiri (may Allah be pleased with him) and I prayed at a place called Iliya'. Their judge was from the tribe of Azd; he was called Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu al-Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) said: My companion went ahead of me to the mosque. Then I caught up with him, and he was sitting in a corner of the mosque. He asked me: "Did you catch the storytelling of Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him)?" I said: "No." He said: I heard him say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ten things: "First, filing the teeth; second, tattooing; third, plucking hair; a man lying with another man without a garment between them, and likewise a woman with a woman; a man putting silk on the lower part of his garments like the non-Arabs, and putting silk on his shoulders like the non-Arabs; plundering; riding on saddles of leopard skin; and the ring is only for a ruler."
