Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was sitting to one side on Friday when a man came stepping over the necks of the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Sit down, for you have caused harm and you have come late." Abu al-Zahiriyah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: We used to talk among ourselves until the imam came out.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, applies some of his wife's perfume, and wears good clothes, then does not step over the necks of the people and does not engage in idle talk during the sermon, this will be an expiation for the interval between the two Fridays; and whoever engages in idle talk and steps over the necks of the people, for him it is (the reward of) Zuhr."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: For one of you to pray on the stony ground of al-Harrah is better for him than to sit (at home) until, when the imam stands to deliver the sermon, he comes stepping over the necks of the people.
