Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man leads people in prayer, he should not single himself out for a supplication to the exclusion of them. If he does so, he has betrayed them. And no one should cast his eye into someone's house without their permission; if he does so, he has betrayed them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for a man to pray while holding back urine and the like; rather, he should first relieve himself. Nor is it lawful for anyone to lead people in prayer without their permission, nor to single himself out for a supplication. If he does so, he has betrayed them. Nor is it lawful for a man to look through any opening into a house. If he looks, it is as if he has entered the house without permission."

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). He had come out for the Fajr prayer and was saying: 'Allahumma ighfir li, Allahumma irhamni, Allahumma tub 'alayya' (O Allah, forgive me; O Allah, have mercy on me; O Allah, accept my repentance). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck him on his shoulder and said: "Make the supplication general, for the difference in merit between the general and the specific is like the difference between the heaven and the earth."
