أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ فُورَكٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مَالِكٍ النُّكْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: " كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تُصَلِّي خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَجْمَلَ النَّاسِ، فَكَانَ نَاسٌ فِي آخِرِ صُفُوفِ الرِّجَالِ فَنَظَرُوا إِلَيْهَا قَالَ: وَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطِهِ، وَكَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ يَتَقَدَّمُ إِلَى الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ لَا يَرَاهَا، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ} [الحجر: ٢٤].
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that some beautiful women used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some people would stand in the last row of the men and look at them. Some of them would look at them from under their armpits, and some would come forward to the first row so that they would not see them. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "We know those who go forward to the first rows in prayer and those who remain in the last rows." [Surah al-Hijr: 24]
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي، ثنا أَبُو عُمَرَ حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، ثنا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ. إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " كَانَتْ تُصَلِّي خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرَأَةٌ حَسْنَاءُ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ، وَكَانَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ يَسْتَقْدِمُ فِي الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ لِئَلَّا يَرَاهَا، وَيَسْتَأْخِرُ بَعْضُهُمْ حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ قَالَ: هَكَذَا، وَنَظَرَ مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطِهِ وَجَافَى يَدَهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فِي شَأْنِهَا {وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ} [الحجر: ٢٤].
Nuh bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with his chain (from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both), except that in it he said: Beautiful women used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some people would go to the first rows so that they could not see them, and some would stand in the last row; when they bowed, they would look from under their armpits, keeping their arms away from their sides. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "We know those who go forward and We know those who stay behind." [Surah al-Hijr: 24]
