Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The witr is three, just as the witr of the day is Maghrib." This is the statement of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), not a saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Yahya bin Zakariyya bin Abi al-Hawajib al-Kufi narrated it from al-A'mash as a saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he is da'if (weak), and his narration contradicts the narration of the group from al-A'mash.

Hadith Takhrij«صحيح۔ اخرجه الطبراني في الكبير 9420»
Al-A'mash (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from some of his associates that Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The witr is seven or five, and not fewer than three.
It has also been reported from al-A'mash from Ibrahim, who said: Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said it; but that is munqati' (with a broken chain) and mawquf (stopping at the Companion).

Sa'd bin Hisham narrates from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say the salam in the two rak'ahs of the witr.
(b) Aban narrates from Qatadah that he used to pray three witr and sat in the last rak'ah.
The narration of Abd al-Wahhab appears to be an abridgement of the hadith, and the narration of Aban is a mistake.
