أنبأ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ (ح) وَأنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَبُو مُوسَى، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي مَبَارِكِ الْإِبِلِ، فَقَالَ: " لَا تُصَلُّوا فِيهَا، فَإِنَّهَا مِنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ " وَسُئِلَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ، فَقَالَ: " صَلُّوا فِيهَا فَإِنَّهَا بَرَكَةٌ " حَدِيثُهُمَا سَوَاءٌ.
Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about praying in the pens of camels, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not pray there, for they are devils." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about praying in the pens of sheep, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray there, for there is blessing here."
أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، أنبأ يُونُسُ، عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " صَلُّوا فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ، وَلَا تُصَلُّوا فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ، فَإِنَّهَا خُلِقَتْ مِنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ " كَذَا رَوَاهُ جَمَاعَةٌ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ " كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ "، لَمْ يَذْكُرِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray in the pens of sheep, and do not pray in the pens of camels, for they were created from devils."
وَأنبأ أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْمُزَكِّي، وَأَبُو الْقَاسِمِ السَّرَّاجُ، وَغَيْرُهُمَا قَالُوا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ كُرَيْزٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِذَا أَدْرَكَتْكُمُ الصَّلَاةُ، وَأَنْتُمْ فِي مُرَاحِ الْغَنَمِ فَصَلُّوا فِيهَا، فَإِنَّهَا سَكِينَةٌ وَبَرَكَةٌ، وَإِذَا أَدْرَكَتْكُمُ الصَّلَاةُ وَأَنْتُمْ فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ فَاخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا فَصَلُّوا فَإِنَّهَا جِنٌّ مِنْ جِنٍّ خُلِقَتْ، أَلَا تَرَى أَنَّهَا إِذَا نَفَرَتْ كَيْفَ تَشْمَخُ بِأَنْفِهَا؟ " قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ فِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَفِي قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا تُصَلُّوا فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ؛ فَإِنَّهَا جِنٌّ مِنْ جِنٍّ خُلِقَتْ " دَلِيلٌ عَلَى أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا نَهَى عَنْهَا، كَمَا قَالَ حِينَ نَامَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ: " اخْرُجُوا بِنَا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَادِي؛ فَإِنَّهُ وَادٍ بِهِ شَيْطَانٌ " فَكَرِهَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ قُرْبَ شَيْطَانٍ، وَكَذَا كَرِهَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ قُرْبَ الْإِبِلِ؛ لِأَنَّهَا خُلِقَتْ مِنْ جِنٍّ لَا لِنَجَاسَةِ مَوْضِعِهَا، وَقَالَ فِي الْغَنَمِ: " هِيَ مِنْ دَوَابِّ الْجَنَّةِ " قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: أَمَّا الْحَدِيثُ فِي النَّوْمِ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَدْ مَضَى، وَأَمَّا حَدِيثُهُ فِي الْغَنَمِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you are in a sheep pen and the time of prayer comes, pray in it, for there is tranquillity and blessing in it. And if the time of prayer comes while you are in a camel pen, leave it and pray somewhere else; they were created from jinn. Do you not see how, when it bolts, it turns up its nose?"
(b) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in the narration of Abu Sa'id: The saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Do not pray in the pens of camels, for they were created from jinn" is evidence that he forbade it only in the way that, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) slept past the prayer in a valley, he said: "Leave this valley, for there is a devil in it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked praying near a devil, and likewise he disliked praying near camels, because they too were created from jinn, not because their place is impure. And about sheep he said: "They are among the animals of Paradise."

فَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ بْنُ عَدِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ كَاسِبٍ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " صَلُّوا فِي مُرَاحِ الْغَنَمِ، وَامْسَحُوا رُغَامَهَا فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ دَوَابِّ الْجَنَّةِ " وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَوَاهُ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مَوْقُوفًا عَلَيْهِ، وَقِيلَ: مَرْفُوعًا، وَالْمَوْقُوفُ أَصَحُّ، وَرُوِّينَاهُ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ مَرْفُوعًا.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray in the pens of sheep and wipe the mucus from their noses, for they are among the animals of Paradise."
Humayd bin Malik narrated it from Abu Hurayrah as his own statement (mawquf); it was also said to be from the Prophet (marfu'), and the mawquf is more correct.

وَأنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَلَوِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَاجِبٍ، ثنا سَخْتَوَيْهِ بْنُ مَازْيَارَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا حَيَّانَ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ الْغَنَمَ مِنْ دَوَابِّ الْجَنَّةِ فَامْسَحُوا رُغَامَهَا وَصَلُّوا فِي مَرَابِضِهَا " ⦗٦٣١⦘ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ: فَأَمَرَ أَنْ يُصَلَّى فِي مُرَاحِهَا، يَعْنِي، وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ فِي الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي يَقَعُ عَلَيْهِ اسْمُ مُرَاحِهَا الَّذِي لَا بَعْرَ وَلَا بَوْلَ فِيهِ قَالَ: وَأَكْرَهُ لَهُ الصَّلَاةَ فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا قَذَرٌ؛ لِنَهْيِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنْ صَلَّى أَجْزَأَهُ؛ لِأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فَمَرَّ بِهِ شَيْطَانٌ فَخَنَقَهُ حَتَّى وَجَدَ بَرْدَ لِسَانِهِ عَلَى يَدِهِ وَلَمْ يُفْسِدْ ذَلِكَ صَلَاتَهُ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sheep are among the animals of Paradise; wipe the mucus from their noses and pray in their pens."
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that prayer be offered in their pens, meaning, and Allah knows best, in the place that is called their pen in which there are neither droppings nor urine. He said: I consider praying in the pens of camels disliked (makruh), even if there is no filth in them, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it. If someone does pray there, his prayer is valid, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying when a devil passed by him (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) squeezed its throat and felt the coolness of its tongue on his hand, and that did not invalidate his (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer.

أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْبَزَّازُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بُدَيْلٍ، ثنا مُفَضَّلُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةً مَكْتُوبَةً، فَضَمَّ يَدَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَحْدَثَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ: " لَا، إِلَّا أَنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَمُرَّ بَيْنَ يَدِيَّ فَخَنَقْتُهُ حَتَّى وَجَدْتُ بَرْدَ لِسَانِهِ عَلَى يَدِيَّ، وَايْمُ اللهِ لَوْلَا مَا سَبَقَنِي إِلَيْهِ أَخِي سُلَيْمَانُ لَارْتُبِطَ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ مِنْ سَوَارِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى يُطِيفَ بِهِ وَلَدَانُ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ " وَقَدْ مَضَى مَعْنَى هَذَا فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We prayed an obligatory prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). During the prayer he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought his hands together. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, we asked: O Messenger of Allah, has something new come about in the prayer, that is, a command? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but the devil tried to pass in front of me, so I squeezed his throat and felt the coolness of his tongue on my hand. By Allah, had the supplication of my brother Sulayman (peace be upon him) not preceded, I would have tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque, and in the morning the children of Madinah would have played with him."
وَأنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو النَّضْرِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ، ثنا تَمِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى إِلَى بَعِيرٍ رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed using a camel as a sutrah (barrier).
وَأنبأ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْأَدِيبُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، وَأَخْبَرَنِي الْمَنْيعِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو خَالِدٍ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِمِثْلِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْمَنِيعِيَّ قَالَ: إِلَى بَعِيرِهِ رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ وَهَذَا وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ صَلَاةً فِي مَوْضِعِ الْإِبِلِ فَهِيَ صَلَاةٌ قُرْبَ الْإِبِلِ، ثُمَّ كَانَتْ جَائِزَةً لِطَهَارَةِ الْمَكَانِ، كَمَا كَرِهَ الصَّلَاةَ قُرْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ فِي خَبَرٍ آخَرَ، ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِهِ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَخَنَقَهُ وَلَمْ يُفْسِدْ عَلَيْهِ صَلَاتَهُ، وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Although this prayer was not in the pen of camels, it was near a camel, and it was nevertheless valid because the place was pure; just as in another hadith praying near a devil is disliked, yet when a devil passed by him (peace and blessings be upon him) during prayer and he (peace and blessings be upon him) squeezed its throat, his (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer was not invalidated. And Allah knows best.
