It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the companion of the Qur'an is like that of a camel with its knee tied. If he (the companion of the Qur'an) keeps firm hold of it, he will be able to restrain it, and if he lets it loose, it will quickly go away."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Keep these Mushafs firmly in memory; by Allah, the Qur'an escapes from people's breasts more quickly than animals escape from their tethers. (So keep reciting it.) Let none of you ever say: "Nasitu ayata kayta wa kayt" (I have forgotten such-and-such a verse), for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is made to be forgotten."

Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a bad thing for any of you to say: I have forgotten such-and-such a verse; rather (let him say): it was made to be forgotten. Keep refreshing your memory of the Qur'an, for it surely escapes from people's breasts more quickly than animals escape from their tethers."

The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who recites the Qur'an with skill is like the noble angels, and as for the one who recites the Qur'an and strives to memorise it while it is hard for him, he will have two rewards."

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one skilled in (reciting) the Qur'an will be with the noble angels, and the one who recites the Qur'an stumbling over it, while it is hard for him, will have two rewards."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite the Qur'an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for those who recite it. Recite Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al Imran, for these two are al-zahrawan (the two radiant surahs), and they will come on the Day of Resurrection as though they were two clouds, or two canopies, or two flocks of birds in flight with their wings spread out, pleading (in defence) on behalf of the one who recited them. Recite Surah al-Baqarah, for memorising it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the people of falsehood (the sorcerers) do not have the ability to face it."
(b) Mu'awiyah (bin Sallam) said: By al-batalah are meant al-saharah, that is, sorcerers.
