In this chapter, the hadiths of Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id, Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubayd and other Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) have already passed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, Uqbah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), that a man came and sat down in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while we too were sitting with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah, as for sending salam upon you, we know it; but how should we send blessings (durud) upon you when we are praying? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell silent, and remained silent for so long that we thought: if only this man had not asked him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send blessings upon me, say: 'Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin an-Nabiyyi al-ummiyyi wa 'ala ali Muhammad, kama sallayta 'ala Ibrahima wa ali Ibrahim, wa barik 'ala Muhammadin an-Nabiyyi al-ummiyyi wa 'ala ali Muhammad, kama barakta 'ala Ibrahima wa ali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid' (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the unlettered Prophet, and send blessings upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), just as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him); and send down blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and upon his (peace and blessings be upon him) family too, just as You sent down blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his family. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious)."
Ali (al-Daraqutni) said: This chain is hasan (good) and connected.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you recites the tashahhud, after it he should say: 'Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammad, wa barik 'ala Muhammadin wa 'ala ali Muhammad, warham Muhammadan wa ala Muhammad, kama sallayta wa barakta wa tarahhamta 'ala Ibrahima wa 'ala ali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid' (O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, send down blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, and have mercy on Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), just as You sent down mercies and blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and showed them mercy. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious)."

Abd al-Muhaymin bin Abbas bin Sahl al-Sa'idi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard my father narrating from my grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no prayer for the one who does not perform ablution; there is no ablution for the one who does not mention the name of Allah before it; and there is no prayer for the one who has not sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Abd al-Muhaymin is da'if (weak); his narrations are not used as evidence. It has also been narrated from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) as a marfu' report, and its chain is weak.

Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: If I were to offer a prayer in which I did not send blessings upon the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would think that my prayer was not complete.

(a) Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) states: If I were to offer even one prayer in which I did not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I would consider that prayer incomplete.
(b) Jabir al-Ju'fi is alone in narrating this hadith, and he is a weak narrator. The hadiths on this subject that have passed here and in the chapter on the description of the prayer are sufficient. And success is from Allah.
(c) It has been narrated to us from Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that whoever does not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the tashahhud should repeat his prayer, or he said: his prayer will not suffice.
