Bayhaqi 3968 — The obligation of sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دَرَسْتَوَيْهِ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: " لَوْ صَلَّيْتُ صَلَاةً لَا أُصَلِّي فِيهَا عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَرَأَيْتُ أَنَّ صَلَاتِي لَا تَتِمُّ ".
Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: If I were to offer a prayer in which I did not send blessings upon the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would think that my prayer was not complete.
