It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am only a human being; I forget just as you forget. So when any of you has a doubt in his prayer, let him reflect and complete his prayer on what is closest to being correct, and then (at the end) perform two prostrations."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you stands to pray, Satan comes to him and puts him into confusion (about the prayer), until he does not know how much he has prayed. So when any of you experiences that, let him perform two prostrations while sitting."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the call (adhan) is given for the prayer, Satan runs away breaking wind, fleeing so far that he cannot hear the call. Then, when the call is finished, he comes back, and when the iqamah is given he runs away again. When the iqamah is finished he returns again and puts thoughts into the heart of the one praying, until he says: Remember such-and-such; he reminds him of things he had not been remembering. At that point the man does not know how many rak'ahs he has prayed, three or four. (When this happens,) let the one praying perform two prostrations while sitting."
