(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in the year of the Conquest (of Makkah) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited a verse of prostration, and all the people prostrated; among them were those riding and those prostrating on the ground. Those who were riding prostrated on their hands.
(b) It is reported from Sayyiduna Ali and Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that they both prostrated by gesturing while they were riding.
(c) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that someone asked him about prostrating on an animal, that is, on a mount, and he said: Prostrate by gesturing.
(d) Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Do not prostrate except in a state of ablution. When you prostrate while resident, face the qiblah, and if you are riding a mount or the like, there is no sin upon you, whichever way your face is turned (prostrate in that direction).

Umm Salamah al-Azdiyyah (may Allah have mercy on her) said: I saw Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reciting from the mushaf; whenever she passed by a verse of prostration, she would stop and prostrate.
