Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I used to give admonition after the Fajr prayer and would prostrate at the verse of prostration. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) forbade me three times, but I did not stop, so he said: "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), and they did not perform any prostration until the sun had risen."
If this narration is established as marfu', then it is preferable to delay the prostration until the disliked time has passed; and if its being marfu' is not established, then it is as though he made an analogy between it and the voluntary prayer. We will, Allah willing, present evidence that what has a (specific) cause is excluded from the general prohibition.
It is reported from Ata, Salim, al-Qasim and Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on them) that they permitted the prostration of recitation after Fajr and after Asr.
And Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) performed a prostration of gratitude after the Fajr prayer when he heard the glad tidings of (the acceptance of) his repentance, and this happened in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
