Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not pray behind one who is sleeping or one who is talking."
This is the best of what has been narrated on this topic, and it is mursal. Hisham bin Ziyad Abu al-Miqdam also narrated it from Muhammad bin Ka'b, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: (a) "Do not form rows between the pillars, and do not pray while there are people in front of you who are wrangling or playing."
(b) This mawquf report concerns people wrangling in front of him, so that the sound of their voices and their talk takes away the humility (khushu') of the prayer; so he should avoid them as much as he can. But if someone is sleeping in front of him, there is no harm in it; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do this.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray (Tahajjud) at night while I lay between him and the qiblah. When he wanted to pray witr, he would wake me as well, and I too would pray witr.
