أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْقِدُ التَّسْبِيحَ ".
Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) counting the tasbih (glorifications) on his hand.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ فِي آخَرِينَ، قَالُوا: ثنا عَثَّامٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْقِدُ التَّسْبِيحَ " قَالَ ابْنُ قُدَامَةَ: بِيَمِينِهِ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: وَرَوَاهُ ابْنُ الْبَاغِنْدِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْمِقْدَامِ الْعِجْلِيِّ، عَنْ عَثَّامٍ، وَقَالَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ: " يَعْقِدُ التَّسْبِيحَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " ذَكَرَهُ شَيْخٌ لَنَا بِخَسْرَوَجَرْدَ يُعْرَفُ بِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ صَحِيحُ السَّمَاعِ، عَنِ الشَّيْخِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيِّ فِيٍ أَمَالِيهِ لِحَدِيثِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْبَاغَنْدِيِّ.
(a) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) counting the tasbih on his right hand.

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخُسْرَوْجِرْدِيُّ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ مُطَيَّنٌ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ فُدَيْكٍ، ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ " كَانَ يَعُدُّ الْآيَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَيَعْقِدُ " مِنْ قَوْلِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ.
It is narrated from Abu Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to count the verses in the prayer and also keep count of them by knotting his fingers.
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ السَّرَّاجُ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ مُطَيَّنٌ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ الْفُدَيْكِ، حَدَّثَنِي الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَعُدُّ الْآيَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَيَعْقِدُ ".
Al-A'mash narrates by way of Ibrahim al-Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to count the verses in the prayer and keep count of them by knotting his fingers.
وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَعُدُّ الْآيَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَيَعْقِدُ ".
Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah have mercy on him) that he used to count the verses of the Qur'an in the prayer and keep count of them by knotting his fingers.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْقَاضِي، أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرِ بْنُ دُحَيْمٍ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ أَوْ سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ وَثَّابٍ يَعُدُّ الْآيَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ".
Al-A'mash (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I saw Yahya bin Waththab (may Allah have mercy on him) counting the verses in the prayer.
