It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite the qunut in any prayer.
Muhammad bin Jabir al-Suhaymi narrated it thus, and he is matruk (abandoned).

(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the qunut for one month, in which he kept supplicating against Usayyah and Dhakwan. Then when he prevailed over them, he abandoned the qunut.
(b) Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) only abandoned the supplicating against them.

(a) It is narrated from Abu Malik al-Ashja'i that he said: I said to my respected father: "Dear father, did you not pray behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)?" He said: "Certainly!" I said: "Did they recite the qunut in the Fajr prayer?" He said: "My son, that is an innovation."
(b) Tariq bin Ashyam al-Ashja'i did not retain the narration from those behind whom he prayed, so he considered it an innovation, whereas others besides him did retain this narration; therefore the ruling goes against him.

(a) It is narrated from Abu Mijlaz (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I prayed the morning prayer with Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he did not recite the qunut. I said to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "I have not seen you recite the qunut?" He said: "I have not heard this hadith from anyone among our companions."
(b) Imam al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The forgetting of some Companions, or their laxity regarding some sunnahs, does not entail any defect (criticism, rejection) in the narration of those Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who remembered it and kept it established.

Bishr bin Harb said: I heard Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: "Do you see their standing after the reciter finishes the surah? This qunut is certainly an innovation. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the qunut for only one month, then he abandoned it."
If the narration Bishr bin Harb reports from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is authentic, then it is evidence that he rejected the qunut before the bowing, not the qunut absolutely.
[A weak narrator: Bishr bin Harb al-Nadabi is da'if (weak).]

(a) The eminent Successor Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that reciting the qunut in the morning prayer is an innovation.
This is not authentic; Abu Layla al-Kufi is matruk (abandoned).
(b) Whereas we have already mentioned in the previous pages the narration of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he recited the qunut in the morning prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "forbade reciting the qunut in the morning prayer."
Al-Daraqutni said: Muhammad bin Ya'la, Anbasah and Abdullah bin Nafi' are da'if (weak), and Nafi's hearing from Umm Salamah is not established. Hayyaj narrated it from Anbasah, from Ibn Nafi', from his father, from Safiyyah bint Abi Ubayd, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Safiyyah bint Abi Ubayd did not meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
