It is narrated from Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) that when Malik bin al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the mosque to lead us in prayer, he would say: I will certainly lead you in prayer. Although I do not intend to pray, I want to show you how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying. Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I said to Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him): How was his prayer? He said: It was like the prayer of our Shaykh (Amr bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him)). Amr bin Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) would also say all the takbirs completely, and when he raised his head after the second prostration he would sit, and then rise by supporting himself on the ground.

Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Malik bin al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us in our mosque and said: I will lead you in prayer. I do not intend to pray, but I want to teach you the prayer just as I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying. Then he mentioned the complete hadith; in it, it is mentioned that when he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head from prostration he sat up straight, and then stood up, supporting himself on the ground.

The same is reported from Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) through another chain. Its wording is: When Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his head from the second prostration in the first rak'ah, he would sit up straight and then stand up, supporting himself on the ground.

Al-Mughirah bin Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he saw Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) praying; in the prayer, after the two prostrations, he would rise straight up on his feet. When he finished his prayer with the salam, I mentioned this (sitting for rest) to him, and he said: This is not a Sunnah of the prayer; I only do it because I have an ailment.
