It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I do not become pure; shall I abandon the prayer?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a vein; it is not menstruation. When it comes, abandon the prayer, and when its (the menstruation's) duration has passed, wash the blood off yourself and pray."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have prolonged bleeding (istihadah); I do not become pure. So shall I abandon the prayer? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a vein; it is not menstruation. When menstruation comes, abandon the prayer, and when it has gone, wash the blood off yourself, then pray."

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the blood. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I saw her tub filled with blood. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Wait for as long as your menstruation used to hold you back, then take a ritual bath." (b) Muslim recorded it in his Sahih from Qutaybah bin Sa'id. So in both narrations the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed her, once her menstruation had ended or as much time had passed as her menstruation used to hold her back, under the ruling of women who are pure, and he did not order her to wait extra days as a precaution (istizhar). Something suggesting that has been narrated in a weak hadith.

Ibn Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from his father that the daughter of Murshid, an Ansari woman, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I find my menstruation has become irregular. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How?" She said: It comes to me, and when I become pure from it, it returns to me again. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see that, wait three (days)." (b) Ibn Ishaq says that this narration is weak. (c) It is also possible that purity often occurs in the middle of menstruation, and then after that menstruation begins again. (d) The Shaykh says: Haram bin Uthman is weak; he is not a proof.

Al-Qa'qa' bin Hakim asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) about the woman with prolonged bleeding (istihadah), and he said: "O my nephew! There is no one who knows this better than I do. When menstruation comes, abandon the prayer, and when it (the menstruation) has gone, take a ritual bath and pray."
