He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Water is pure; nothing makes it impure."

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates with the same meaning as this hadith, and he narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Nothing makes water impure." The narrator says: We needed water, so we drank water. (b) Abu Ja'far al-Dulabi says: Tarif is Abu Sufyan. (c) The Shaykh says: This narration is not strong, but I have mentioned its supporting witness before. (d) One report says that with this chain Sharik narrated it from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Another report says it is from Sayyiduna Jabir or from Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with them both), that is, with doubt, and that it being reported from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) is more authentic.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about (the water of) the pools that were between Makkah and Madinah. They said: "Beasts of prey, dogs and donkeys come to drink from them?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is in their bellies is theirs, and what remains is pure for us." (b) Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd is da'if (weak); his hadiths cannot be used as proof. (c) It has been narrated through another chain from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu', and it is not well known.

Muhammad bin Abi Yahya narrates from his father, who said: I entered upon Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) along with some women. He said: "If I were to give you water to drink from Buda'ah, you would dislike it; yet by Allah! I gave the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) water to drink from it (this well) with my own hand."
This chain is hasan (good) and connected.

It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the pool of Majannah. It was said: "O Commander of the Believers! A dog has just now lapped from it." He said: "The dog drinks only with its tongue." Then he drank (the water) and performed ablution.
(b) The same account is reported from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him), and in it: That which it lapped has gone, meaning the dogs took that water away in their bellies.
This is a well-known account from Umar, even though it is mursal (with a broken chain).
