It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that it was said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! May we perform ablution with the water left over by donkeys?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, and with what all the beasts of prey leave over."

(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: May we perform ablution with the water left over by donkeys? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, and also with what the beasts of prey leave over."
(b) The reports differ about whether Ibrahim bin Abi Yahya al-Aslami is trustworthy; most of the hadith scholars declared him da'if (weak) and also criticised him, while Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) considered him far from lying. (c) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Ibrahim bin Abi Yahya was a Qadari. I said to al-Rabi': Then what led Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) to narrate from him? He said: Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that, for Ibrahim, falling from a height was dearer than telling a lie, and that he was reliable in hadith. (d) Abu Ahmad says: I have examined his hadiths, and there is no munkar (denounced) hadith among them; he only narrates something munkar when the fault lies with the one narrating from him or with the one from whom Ibrahim narrates.

When they came to a watering trough, Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the owner of the trough: O owner of the trough! Do beasts of prey come to your trough? Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O owner of the trough! Do not tell us, for beasts of prey come to us and we come to them.
