(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: May we perform ablution with the water left over by donkeys? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, and also with what the beasts of prey leave over."
(b) The reports differ about whether Ibrahim bin Abi Yahya al-Aslami is trustworthy; most of the hadith scholars declared him da'if (weak) and also criticised him, while Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) considered him far from lying. (c) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Ibrahim bin Abi Yahya was a Qadari. I said to al-Rabi': Then what led Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) to narrate from him? He said: Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say that, for Ibrahim, falling from a height was dearer than telling a lie, and that he was reliable in hadith. (d) Abu Ahmad says: I have examined his hadiths, and there is no munkar (denounced) hadith among them; he only narrates something munkar when the fault lies with the one narrating from him or with the one from whom Ibrahim narrates.
