أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَ: ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، وَوَكِيعٌ، وَغُنْدَرٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا كَانَ جُنُبًا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ ". رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ.
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of janabah and he intended to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution.
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ الْأَهْوَازِيُّ، أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ "،.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to eat while in a state of janabah, he would wash his hands.
وَأَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَقَالَ: " غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ " قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: وَرَوَاهُ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ، فَجَعَلَ قِصَّةَ الْأَكْلِ قَوْلَ عَائِشَةَ مَقْصُورًا. قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ.
(a) Muhammad bin al-Sabbah al-Bazzaz narrates it with the same chain and says that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would wash his hands.
(b) Imam Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ibn Wahb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated this from Yunus (may Allah have mercy on him), in which the mention of eating is the statement of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
(c) The Shaykh said that Layth bin Sa'd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it from al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him).

أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ⦗٣١٣⦘ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ، ثنا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ " قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: " وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَشْرَبَ يَغْسِلُ يَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ إِنْ شَاءَ ". وَقَدْ قِيلَ فِي هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ غَيْرُ هَذَا وَحَدِيثُ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَصَحُّ.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to sleep while in a state of janabah, he would perform an ablution like the ablution for prayer before sleeping, and when he intended to eat or drink, he would wash his hands, then eat, and drink if he wished.

أَخْبَرَنَا الْأُسْتَاذُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمُرَ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ، قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي مِنْ سَفَرٍ فَضَمَّخُونِي بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يُرَحِّبْ بِي، وَلَمْ يَبَشَّ بِي، وَقَالَ: " اذْهَبْ وَاغْسِلْ هَذَا عَنْكَ " فَغَسَلْتُهُ عَنِّي فَجِئْتُهُ وَقَدْ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يُرَحِّبْ بِي وَلَمْ يَبَشَّ بِي وَقَالَ: " اذْهَبْ وَاغْسِلْ عَنْكَ هَذَا " فَغَسَلْتُهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيَّ السَّلَامَ، وَرَحَّبَ بِي وَقَالَ: " إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ لَا تَحْضُرُ جَنَازَةَ الْكَافِرِ بِخَيْرٍ، وَلَا الْمُتَضَمِّخَ بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ، وَلَا الْجُنُبَ، وَرُخِّصَ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ ".
Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to my family from a journey, and they applied saffron to me. When morning came, I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not welcome me nor show pleasure at me, and he said: "Go and wash this off yourself." I washed it off myself, but some trace of it remained. I greeted him, but he did not welcome me nor show pleasure at me, and he said: "Go and wash this off yourself." So I washed it off again, then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him; he returned my greeting and welcomed me. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels do not attend the funeral of a disbeliever with goodness, nor the one smeared with saffron, nor the junub," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted the junub a concession that when he intends to eat or sleep, he should perform ablution.
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ثنا حَمَّادٌ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَخَّصَ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَوْ شَرِبَ أَوْ نَامَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ " وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الْقِصَّةَ وَقَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ: بَيْنَ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمُرَ وَعَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ رَجُلٌ قَالَ: وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ، وَابْنُ عُمَرَ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، وَالْجُنُبُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ تَوَضَّأَ.
Hammad narrated with the same chain that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted the junub a concession: "When he eats, drinks or sleeps, he should perform ablution," and he did not mention the story. (b) Imam Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) said that between Yahya bin Ya'mar and Ammar bin Yasir there is another man.
(c) Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that when a junub person intends to eat, he should perform ablution.
