Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I screened the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking the ritual bath for janabah (major impurity). First he (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his hands, then poured water with his right hand over his left hand and washed his private part and whatever had got on it, then struck his hand on the wall, then performed ablution as for prayer, but did not wash his feet. Then he poured water over himself, then moved to another place and washed his feet.

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took the ritual bath for janabah (major impurity), he would first wash his hands, then take water with his right hand and pour it over his left hand, wash his private part and clean it; then he would rinse his mouth three times, sniff water into his nose three times, wash his face three times, and wash his forearms three times each. Then he would pour water over his head and over his body as well. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished (the bath), he would wash his feet.
