Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of Abu Talhah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah Almighty is not shy of stating the truth; is ghusl required of a woman when she has a wet dream? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, when she sees the water."

Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with the same chain and meaning, and added in it: I said to her: You have disgraced women! Does a woman have a wet dream? the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Taribat yaminuki' (may your right hand be covered with dust)! Then how does the child come to resemble her?"

The Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), says that Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), the mother of the sons of Abu Talhah, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah is not shy of stating the truth. What is your view if a woman sees in her sleep what a man sees; should she perform ghusl? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Shame on you! Does a woman see that too? So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to her and said: "May your hands be covered with dust! Then where does the resemblance come from?"

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that a woman said: O Messenger of Allah, should a woman perform ghusl when she has a wet dream or sees the water? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to her: May your hands be covered with dust! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave her. The resemblance comes only from this. When the woman's water prevails over the man's water, the child resembles his maternal uncles, and when the man's water prevails, the child resembles his paternal uncles."
