Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Laughing in prayer does not require the ablution to be repeated.
Abu Shaybah Ibrahim bin Uthman narrated it from Yazid Abu Khalid as a saying of the Prophet (marfu'); Abu Shaybah is da'if (weak), and the correct view is that it is mawquf (a saying of the Companion).

Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he was leading the people in prayer; they saw something and laughed. When Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) finished the prayer, he said: Whoever laughed in the prayer should repeat the prayer.

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from his father (Abu al-Zinad), who said: The jurists I met whose word was final, among them Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, Urwah bin al-Zubayr, al-Qasim bin Muhammad, Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman, Kharijah bin Zayd bin Thabit, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah and Sulayman bin Yasar, along with other eminent elders besides them, used to say about a person who has a nosebleed that he should wash off the blood and need not perform ablution, and about a person who laughs in prayer that he should repeat the prayer and need not repeat his ablution.

Abu al-Aliyah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that a blind man came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prayer, and he fell into a well, so some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) laughed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered: "Whoever laughed should perform ablution again and repeat the prayer."
This hadith is mursal. The mursal reports of Abu al-Aliyah carry no weight.

It is narrated from al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in prayer when a blind man came and fell into the well of the mosque. (Seeing this,) some people laughed. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said the salam, he ordered that "they should perform ablution again and repeat the prayer."
(b) Ma'bad al-Juhani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as mursal. Ma'bad (may Allah have mercy on him) was not a Companion; rather, he was the first person to debate predestination (qadar) in Basrah.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A blind man came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prayer; he stumbled and fell into a well, and some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) laughed. (a) It is narrated from Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a man who had laughed in prayer "to repeat the ablution and the prayer."
(b) It is narrated from al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) that he did not hold that laughing in prayer requires ablution.
(c) It is narrated from al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him): Because of laughing, one repeats the prayer but does not repeat the ablution.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We did not accept this narration because it is mursal. The Shaykh said: All these narrations go back to Abu al-Aliyah al-Riyahi. Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The hadith about laughing in prayer, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to repeat the ablution and the prayer, all revolves around Abu al-Aliyah. Ibn Adi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The main thing held against Abu al-Aliyah is this hadith, and all the others who narrated it ultimately rely on Abu al-Aliyah. Sulayman bin Harb (may Allah have mercy on him) declared this hadith weak. Yahya bin Ma'in (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The mursal reports of Ibrahim are sound, except the hadith of the merchant of Bahrain and the hadith of laughing in prayer, and the mursal report of al-Zuhri carries no weight. The Shaykh said: It has also been narrated with connected chains, but they are weak. Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli (may Allah have mercy on him) said: No report about laughing in prayer is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the hadith of Abu al-Aliyah and its supporting narrations are flimsy and weak.
