It is reported from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that water for ablution was brought to him, or a vessel containing water was brought. He poured water from the vessel onto his hand, then washed it three times before putting it into the vessel, then put his right hand into the vessel, then filled his mouth and rinsed it, sniffed water into his nose and blew his nose with his left hand; he did this three times. Then he put his hand into the vessel and washed his face three times, then washed his right hand up to and including the elbow three times, then washed his left hand up to and including the elbow three times. Then he put his right hand into the vessel until it was wet with water, lifted that wet hand, and moistened his left hand with his right hand, then wiped his head with both hands once. Then he poured water three times with his right hand onto his right foot, then washed it with his left hand; then he poured water three times with his right hand onto his left foot and washed it with his left hand. Then he said: "This is the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Whoever would like to see the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), this is his (peace and blessings be upon him) ablution."
