Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, we live in the land of the People of the Book; may we eat from their vessels? And when I am in a land of game, I hunt with my bow, and I hunt with my trained dog and also with my dog that is not trained. So what of that is lawful for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for what you mentioned about the land of the People of the Book, concerning the vessels in which they eat: if you find vessels other than theirs, do not eat from their vessels, and if you do not find any other than them, wash them and eat from them. As for what you mentioned about the land of game and hunting with the bow, mention the name of Allah over it and eat it. Whatever you hunt with a trained dog, mention the name of Allah over it and eat it. And whatever you hunt with an untrained dog, and you find it (alive) and slaughter it, then eat it."
