أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أنا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: " لَمَّا رَمَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجَمْرَةَ، وَنَحَرَ هَدْيَهُ، نَاوَلَ الْحَلَّاقَ شِقَّهُ الْأَيْمَنَ فَحَلَقَهُ، فَنَاوَلَهُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ شِقَّهُ الْأَيْسَرَ فَحَلَقَهُ، وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَقْسِمَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ "..
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned the Jamrah and slaughtered his sacrificial animal. Then he presented the right side of his head to the barber, and the barber shaved it. Then he gave that (hair) to Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he presented the left side to him, and he shaved that as well, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Distribute it among the people."
(b) At the end of the hadith in Sahih Muslim are these words: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called Abu Talhah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Distribute it among the people."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْقَطَّانُ، أنبا أَبُو الْأَزْهَرِ، ثنا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ، ثنا أَبَانُ، ثنا يَحْيَى، أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ، شَهِدَ الْمَنْحَرَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، هُوَ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَالَ: " فَقَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ ضَحَايَا، فَلَمْ يُصِبْهُ، وَلَا صَاحِبَهُ ". قَالَ: " فَحَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسَهُ فِي ثَوْبِهِ، فَأَعْطَاهُ فَقَسَّمَ مِنْهُ عَلَى رِجَالٍ، وَقَلَّمَ أَظْفَارَهُ فَأَعْطَى صَاحِبَهُ، فَإِنْهُ عِنْدَنَا لَمَخْضُوبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ " تَابَعَهُ مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ أَبَانَ. وَالْخِضَابُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِمْ لِكَيْلَا يَتَغَيَّرَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ.
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Zayd (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of sacrifice, and a man of the Ansar was also there. My father said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed sacrificial animals among his Companions, and neither I nor the Ansari received (any). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had his head shaved on a cloth and gave me that hair, and I distributed it among men. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) clipped his nails and gave them to his companion. They are with us, and they are dyed with henna and the like.
