It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), that some men of Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), dragging a sheep of theirs that was (in size) like a donkey. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "If only you had made use of its skin!" They said: But it is a carcass? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Water and qaraz (acacia leaves) purify it." (The narrator states that) the wording of Ibn Wahb's narration is the same, except that he said 'an Umm al-Aliyah' (from Umm al-Aliyah).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aliyah bint Subay' (may Allah be pleased with her): I had a flock of sheep at Uhud, and death struck them. So I went to the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and mentioned this to her. The Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) said to me: If only you had taken their skins and derived benefit from them. I said: Is that permissible? She said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some men, and then she mentioned the whole incident.
