أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَعْرُوفِ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ بِشْرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْإِسْفَرَايِينِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْحَذَّاءُ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمَدِينِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، أَخْبَرَنِي عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ، قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ شَيْبَةُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْحَجَبِيُّ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهَا، فَقَالَ: يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّ ثِيَابَ الْكَعْبَةِ تَجْتَمِعُ عَلَيْنَا فَتَكْثُرُ فَنَعْمَدُ إِلَى آبَارٍ فَنَحْتَفِرُهَا فَنُعَمِّقُهَا ثُمَّ نَدْفِنُ ثِيَابَ الْكَعْبَةِ فِيهَا كَيْلَا يَلْبَسَهَا الْجُنُبُ وَالْحَائِضُ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهَا: مَا أَحْسَنْتَ وَلَبِئْسَ مَا صَنَعْتَ إِنَّ ثِيَابَ الْكَعْبَةِ إِذَا نُزِعَتْ مِنْهَا لَمْ يَضُرَّهَا أَنْ يَلْبَسَهَا الْجُنُبُ وَالْحَائِضُ وَلَكِنْ بِعْهَا وَاجْعَلْ ثَمَنَهَا فِي الْمَسَاكِينِ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَتْ: فَكَانَ شَيْبَةُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يُرْسِلُ بِهَا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ فَتُبَاعُ هُنَاكَ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُ ثَمَنَهَا فِي الْمَسَاكِينِ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ.
Shaybah bin Uthman al-Hajabi went to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: O Mother of the Believers! The coverings of the Ka'bah pile up with us, and when they become many, we dig wells and bury them in them, so that no one in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) or a menstruating woman wears them. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: You have not done well, and what you have done is very bad. When the covering of the Ka'bah has been taken off it, there is no harm in someone in a state of major impurity or a menstruating woman wearing it. Rather, sell it and spend its price on the poor and in jihad. She said: After that, Shaybah would send the covering to Yemen, where it would be sold, and then its price would be spent on the poor, on jihad and on travellers.
