Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made peace with the polytheists of Quraysh, he wrote a document: "This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), has made peace upon." They said: If we believed that you are the Messenger of Allah, we would never have fought you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Erase it." He refused, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) erased it with his own blessed hand and wrote: "This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace and blessings be upon him) has made peace upon." And they stipulated that they would stay (in Makkah) for three days and would not bring any weapon into Makkah except a sword sheathed in its scabbard.
