وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو نَصْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَقِيهُ الشِّيرَازِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى، ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ، ثنا حَمَّادٌ، ثنا أَيُّوبُ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: " كُنَّا نُنْهَى أَنْ نُحِدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ، إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا، وَلَا نَكْتَحِلُ، وَلَا نَتَطَيَّبُ، وَلَا نَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا ثَوْبَ عَصَبٍ، وَقَدْ رَخَّصَ فِي طُهْرِهَا إِذَا اغْتَسَلَتْ إِحْدَانَا مِنْ مَحِيضِهَا فِي نُبْذَةٍ مِنْ قُسْطٍ وَأَظْفَارٍ ". رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنِ الْحَجَبِيِّ. وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيِّ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ.
Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "We were forbidden to mourn for a deceased person for more than three days, except for a husband, four months and ten days; during that time we would not apply kohl, nor wear perfume, nor wear dyed clothing, except garments of 'asb. And a concession was given at the time of purification: when one of us took the ritual bath after her menstruation, she could use 'a little qust and azfar' (kinds of incense)."
