Bayhaqi 858 — A woman need not undo her braids if she knows the water

Sa'id bin Abi Sa'id al-Maqburi heard from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I braid the hair of my head tightly; how should I do it when I take the ritual bath? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pour three handfuls of water over your head, then splash water over the trace of each handful; that will suffice you."
The narration of Ayyub bin Musa is more authentic than the narration of Usamah bin Zayd; he preserved in its chain what Usamah bin Zayd did not preserve.
