Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), says: I was standing with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a Jewish scholar came and said: 'As-salamu alayka ya Muhammad' (Peace be upon you, O Muhammad!). The narrator says: I pushed him so hard that he nearly fell. The Jew said: Why did you push me? I said: Why do you not say, 'O Messenger of Allah'? The Jew said: We will call him by the name that his family gave him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The name my family gave me is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Jew said: I have come to ask you about some things. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I tell you something, will it benefit you?" He said: I will listen with my ears. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) scratched the ground with a stick that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had with him, and then said: "Ask." The Jew said: Where will people be (at that time), on the Day when the earth will be changed into another earth, and the heavens as well [Surah Ibrahim: 48]? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be in darkness, short of the Bridge (al-Sirat)." He said: Which people will be given permission (to cross into Paradise) first? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The poor among the Muhajirun." The Jew said: When they enter Paradise, what will their gift be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hospitality with the (extra lobe of the) fish's liver." He said: What will their food be after that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The bull of Paradise, which used to graze in its various parts, will be slaughtered for them." He said: What will their drink be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From a spring whose name is Salsabil." He said: You have spoken the truth. Then he said: And I have come to ask you about something that no one among the people of the earth knows except a prophet, or one or two men. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I tell you something, will it benefit you?" He said: I will listen with my ears. And he said: I have come to ask you about the child. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The man's fluid is white and the woman's fluid is yellow. When the man's semen prevails over the woman's semen, the two produce a boy by the permission of Allah; and when the woman's semen prevails over the man's semen, a girl is born by the permission of Allah." He said: You have spoken the truth; indeed you are a true prophet. Then he went away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I had no knowledge of the things he asked me about, until Allah gave me knowledge of them."
