مَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا، وَهَكَذَا، وَهَكَذَا، ثَلَاثُ مَرَّاتٍ بِيَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَبَضَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ إِبْهَامَهُ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his hands three times: "The month is like this, like this and like this." Then the third time he folded his thumb and said: "If it is clouded over you, then complete thirty days."
