أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ مَالِكًا عَنْ تَفْضِيضِ الْمَصَاحِفِ، فَأَخْرَجَ إِلَيْنَا مُصْحَفًا، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي، أَنَّهُمْ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَأَنَّهُمْ فَضَّضُوا الْمَصَاحِفَ عَلَى هَذَا أَوْ نَحْوِهِ.
Al-Walid bin Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) about decorating copies of the Qur'an with silver. He brought out a copy of the Qur'an for us and said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather that they compiled the Qur'an in the time of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and that they decorated the copies of the Qur'an with silver like this, or something similar.
